The exercise of painting has become a method of meditation for me; a way to connect with the mysterious unknown using the imagery of the concrete. Part of my evolution has been to take time out of the act of creating, to ponder what art is. What is the meaning or purpose of life? what does it matter that people spend their whole lives doing what they do? Why do I do what I do, why paint? There is nothing new in these age old questions just as the act of creating images, whether abstract or representational, is not new. In fact, it may seem silly that I took time off to sit around and think about these things. I cannot say that I have uncovered any earth-shaking definitive answers as a result. Only that my purpose is to explore these questions through imagery and color. Painting is a way to relate things in a language other than words. I am drawn to color, shape and light, choosing to work primarily with oil paint. The plasticity, consistency and color of oils are my preference. My inspiration comes from life: the everyday of my environment and the world. Often my work is about my life journey or my sub consciousness but I do not realize it until much later.
